About the role
Vascular services at Eastern Health are based at Box Hill Hospital, which serves as the network's specialist centre for vascular care. Patients requiring vascular surgical assessment or treatment from Angliss Hospital and Maroondah Hospital are referred to Box Hill Hospital. The service also operates a dedicated outpatient clinic, providing care to approximately 2,100 patients each year.
The Vascular Registrar is a valued member of the Vascular Surgery team, working closely with the Vascular Surgeons to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. The role is responsible for the day-to-day management of vascular inpatients, participating in consultant ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and operating theatre sessions, while ensuring accurate clinical documentation and continuity of care.
The Registrar works collaboratively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to support coordinated clinical decision-making and positive patient outcomes. The role also provides supervision and support to Hospital Medical Officers (HMOs), contributing to their development and ensuring key clinical tasks, including discharge summaries, are completed in a timely manner.
The Vascular Registrar is expected to be readily contactable during rostered and on-call periods and to actively contribute to Eastern Health's culture of patient safety and continuous improvement through incident reporting, participation in meetings, and quality improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in operative procedures and patient care in vascular surgery
- Manage ward and outpatient vascular patients
- Participate in surgical audits and multidisciplinary meetings
- Take part in on-call rosters and emergency assessments
- Engage in teaching, research, and professional development
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Current registration with AHPRA
- A minimum of three years’ experience within the Australian Hospital system.
- A demonstrated interest and experience in Vascular Surgery
- Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
