Family Carer Peer Worker – Inpatient Unit   

 

  • Permanent Part Time | 15.2 hours per week | 0.5 EFT

About the role 

 

Our Lived Experience Workforce (LEW) is a non-clinical team that operates across various clinical settings, including Crisis Assessment Treatment Teams, Acute Inpatient Units, Emergency Departments, Community Teams, and Rehabilitation Services within our Mental Health & Wellbeing Program.    

An exciting opportunity now exists for a Carer Peer Support Worker to take up a role within the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit at Box Hill Hospital 

The Lived Experience Carer Support Worker in the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit plays a vital role in providing support, guidance and empathy to families/carers of those seeking care. With their lived experience, a Lived Experience Peer Support Worker brings a unique perspective and understanding to their interactions with individuals, their families/carers and the Inpatient Team. This role requires independent and autonomous work practice. 

 

 

About you  


To be successful in this role you will possess 

  • Lived experience as a family member or carer of a person who has been a consumer of public mental health services  
  • Demonstrated understanding and empathy of the broad impact of mental illness on consumers and carers/families and of the evidence base for inclusive, family sensitive and recovery oriented practice. 
  • A strong commitment to high quality care 
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team 
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills 

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
