About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a CDS to become part of the new Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) program at Eastern Health. As the organisation’s first CDS, you will have the unique opportunity to assist with the formation and development of the new CDI program. You will review patient records and liaise with clinical teams on the ward to educate clinicians and promote high quality clinical documentation. The CDS role’s objective is to promote the accurate, complete, and timely recording of patient information, and the subsequent translation of this information into high-quality coding for downstream reporting and reimbursement. This position will be based at Box Hill Hospital but may be required to work across all sites.
You will be provided with comprehensive support throughout onboarding and ongoing under the supervision of the Associate Program Director – Classification and Coding as well as working closely with the Coding Co-ordinator – Documentation and clinical leadership. You will need to be highly motivated, enthusiastic, have a strong desire to learn and be adaptive to change.
This is a full-time position primarily located on-site at BHH, but part-time/job share arrangements would be considered.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
Essential
- A Bachelor’s/master’s degree in either Nursing, Allied Health, Medicine, Health Information Management, or equivalent
- 3 years post graduate experience (acute care desirable)
- Evidence of strong critical thinking/problem solving and analytical skills
- Possess significant personal initiative and be skilled in program development
- Demonstrated high level organisational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage and build a rapport with a variety of stakeholders
- Be able to respond to and implement change to identify and achieve improvement
- Ability to work autonomously and within a diverse team.
- A strong commitment to high quality care
Desirable:
- Demonstrated interest in quality improvement (experience of involvement in quality improvement projects desirable)
- Certification in recognised Clinical Documentation Improvement competency
- Basic understanding of clinical coding principles and Activity based funding
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
