About the role
The Perinatal Emotional Health Service (PEHS) is a specialised multi-disciplinary mental health team and is part of Eastern Health Mental Health Program. The PEHS team works closely with the Hospital Antenatal Clinics, Primary Health and Maternal Child Health Services to provide perinatal mental health assessments and treatment to women across the Eastern Suburbs. PEHS have recently received funding to expand their service and provide additional supports to vulnerable populations including Aboriginal and Refuge/Asylum Seeker women. To support this an Aboriginal identified role, the clinical midwife position has been established. As a clinical midwife/nurse consultant you will provide focused cultural and social support regarding perinatal health within the antenatal period and up to 12 months postnatally. You will also provide support to the PEHS clinicians in providing accessible culturally safe care to Aboriginal women and their families.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Registered midwife/nurse with AHPRA
- Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Descent and be accepted as such by the Aboriginal Community
- Substantive clinical experience in public mental health or Aboriginal health and healing services
- Experience building strong partnerships with the Aboriginal community and a wide range of stakeholders
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
