Eastern Health is seeking an experienced and compassionate Intensive Care nurse leader to join our Intensive Care team at Box Hill Hospital as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM).

About the role
The ECMO CNC/CMC C will work collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure the safe delivery of the ECMO service across Eastern Health. This involves working closely with the medical lead for ECMO and the ECLS Nurse Practitioner to ensure clinical, educational and competencies are upheld in accordance with VECMOS and ELSO standards. In addition, the role is responsible for:
- Taking and reviewing ECMO patient referrals
- Maintaining the ECMO on call roster and associated staffing requirements.
- Ensures nursing staff are credentialled to provide ECMO, inclusive of required contact hours.
- Supports ECMO related equipment, maintenance and contractor contact details across EH.
- Liaises and provides referrals to Ambulance Retrieval Victoria (ARV) and the Victorian Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (VECMO) for patient transfer to the Alfred Hospital ECMO and Critical Care Service where indicated.
Qualifications and Registration:
Essential:
- Bachelor of Nursing, Midwifery or other recognised equivalent formal qualification leading to condition free registration in Australia
- Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australian (NMBA) via AHPRA
- Post Registration or Post Graduate qualification or further study in a relevant clinical or academic field.
Desirable:
- Certificate IV in training and assessment
- Experience of working autonomously within a clinical environment
- Member of Australian College of Nursing or Midwifery
- ECMO credentialed by VECMOS, ELSO or equivalent or willing to work towards
Experience:
- Demonstrated clinical skills aligned with experience and scope of practice
- A minimum of 5 years post registration experience in specialism related to the CNC/CMC role.
- Demonstrated leadership and teaching skills in the clinical setting
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Understanding and commitment to professional standards, codes and behaviours as legislated through the Health Act, Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia, other relevant professional bodies and Eastern Health Policy, Standards and Practice Guidelines.
- Proven ability to perform clinical work in a pressure environment
- Awareness and understanding of National Standards and Accreditation Standards.
- Demonstrates advanced verbal and written communication skills in all professional domains of practice.
- Demonstrates an advanced ability to liaise with internal and external peers, stakeholders and clients.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Digital literacy and embracing of health technologies and informatics.
The Clinical Consultant is a Registered Nurse who is appointed as such to provide a clinical resource, clinical advisory/developmental role on a dedicated basis (i.e. performs only consultancy work on the relevant shifts) and undertakes related projects, research, and developmental activities to meet specified clinical nursing/midwifery needs in a clinical discipline.
The Clinical Consultant actively leads the clinical nursing service delivery within their specified unit and collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to review and mitigate issues around clinical quality and safety risk, service performance and care standards relevant to their role.
The Clinical Consultant C is a Registered Nurse who fulfils the clinical consultant role, and:
- is the sole Registered Nurse or Midwife in the specialty (at a particular site or campus);
- is in charge of a specialty team; or
- is a clinical consultant who takes referrals from, or delivers the consultancy outside of more than one campus/worksite/centre of the health service
Eastern Health Intensive Care Services currently comprise three Intensive Care Units (ICU), at the Eastern Health Box in Box Hill, Eastern Health Maroondah in Ringwood East and Eastern Health Angliss in Upper Ferntree Gully. The service includes 50 physical bed spaces to provide care to 21 intensive care equivalent patients. The service provides a mixture of intensive care and high dependency level care.
Each ICU provides high level care to patients within a multidisciplinary teaching hospital environment. Much of this care includes support for patients with severe illnesses, complex surgical recovery, and need for complex procedures, artificial ventilation and other forms of life support.
The service is led by Intensive Care Consultant Intensivists, and staffed by Critical-Care trained Nursing staff, Allied Health staff and training medical staff.

To be successful in this role you need to have:
- Current valid nursing registration with AHPRA
- Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care / Intensive Care Nursing
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills
