Clinical Trials Pharmacist (Grade 2)

About the role

 

 

This position is a member of the Eastern Health pharmacy team and has the responsibility of supporting both sponsored and investigator studies at Eastern Health. Primarily based at Box Hill Hospital, the position may also rotate across other Eastern Health sites to support clinical trial activities. This position reports to the Eastern Health Senior Pharmacist - Clinical Trials.  

 

 

This role is responsible for supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of clinical trial pharmacy services. Key duties include: 

 

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of clinical trial pharmacy services, including study start-up, medication dispensing, creating and maintaining Merlin® clinical trial inventory codes, accountability, inventory management, and sponsor invoicing. 
  • Ensuring investigational medicines are stored, handled, supplied, and documented in accordance with study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and regulatory requirements. 
  • Providing clinical pharmacy services, including drug information, patient counselling, protocol review, and treatment chart review. 
  • Maintaining accurate trial records, managing stock transfers and waste disposal, conducting expiry checks, and overseeing equipment validation and monitoring processes. 
  • Collaborating with investigators, sponsors, nursing staff, and pharmacy teams to support the successful conduct of clinical trials and maintain high-quality patient care. 
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, medication safety activities, incident review, research projects, and Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) programs. 
  • Supervising, mentoring, and providing education to intern pharmacists, pharmacy students, and other pharmacy staff. 
  • Contributing to relevant committees, meetings, on-call services, and providing support across multiple clinical pharmacy service areas as required. 
  • Participating in rostered shifts, including weekends, public holidays, late shifts, and clinical trial on-call services. 

 

Additional credentialing is required before undertaking certain advanced pharmacy activities, including: 

 

  • Dispensing medications. 
  • Approving chemotherapy orders for preparation or supply. 
  • Charting medications under the Partnered Pharmacist Charting Model. 
  • Compounding pharmaceutical preparations. 
  • Releasing aseptically prepared products. 
  • Participating in pharmacist on-call services. 

 

 

What you’ll bring

 

 

To be successful in this role you will possess: 

 

  • Current full pharmacist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)  
  • Hospital pharmacy experience; oncology, haematology and aseptic compounding experience is highly desirable. 
  • High level of attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to ethical practice, regulatory compliance, and patient safety. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with investigators, sponsors, research staff, patients, and multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple studies, maintain accurate documentation, and meet competing deadlines.
