About the role
Reporting clinically to the Clinical Director, Endocrinology and Diabetes Service, and operationally to the Deputy Director Operations, Specialty Medicine, the Diabetes Education Manager provides strategic, operational and clinical leadership for diabetes services across Eastern Health.
The role is responsible for overseeing specialist diabetes education services across inpatient and outpatient settings while driving service improvement, clinical governance, patient access and workforce capability.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across Medicine, Maternity, Allied Health, Pharmacy, Community Services and Primary Care to ensure patients receive safe, evidence-based and person-centred diabetes care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the Diabetes Education Service across multiple Eastern Health sites.
- Manage and develop a team of Credentialled Diabetes Educators and Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultants.
- Improve patient access, flow and service performance across inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Drive quality improvement, research, innovation and service redesign initiatives.
- Provide expert clinical leadership in complex diabetes management.
- Support implementation of contemporary diabetes technologies including continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pump therapies.
- Lead workforce planning, professional development and succession planning activities.
- Manage service resources and contribute to budget and performance monitoring.
- Build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support integrated diabetes care.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
Essential
- Registered Nurse (Division 1) with current registration through AHPRA.
- Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association.
- Postgraduate qualification in Diabetes Education or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in diabetes education and management across acute and ambulatory care settings.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing clinical teams and healthcare services.
- Advanced knowledge of contemporary diabetes management, including insulin therapies, diabetes technologies, gestational diabetes and care across the continuum.
- Demonstrated experience in service planning, workforce management and operational leadership.
- Proven ability to lead quality improvement, clinical governance and service redesign initiatives.
- Strong understanding of National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and relevant professional practice frameworks.
- Demonstrated involvement in research, publications or conference presentations.
- Experience leading implementation of new models of care, digital health initiatives, digital culture and digital transformation.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within complex multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
- Experience using clinical, rostering and reporting systems to support service delivery and performance monitoring.
- Current Victorian Driver Licence.
Desirable
- Master's qualification in Nursing, Health Management, Leadership or related field, or working towards completion.
- Experience managing budgets and financial resources.
- Experience leading implementation of new models of care and digital health initiatives.
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
