About the role

The position is responsible for assisting with managing the Financial Accounting function at Eastern Health.

The incumbent reports to the Financial Controller and has the following staff reporting to them:

  1. Financial Accountant
  2. Project Officer
  3. Assistant Financial Accountant

This position is critical role within the Finance Team responsible for accurate and timely reporting on all aspects Finance.  It has significant stakeholder management both within Eastern Health and external agencies particularly the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS).               

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare daily and weekly cash forecasts.
  • Prepare monthly cashflow statements including monthly forecast to year end. These reports to be rolling estimates for use by management executives, Board and DHHS.
  • Prepare 12 month rolling cashflow projections of operational and capital activity.
  • Manage the Health Services surplus cash in line with cashflow projections and Investment Policy and Strategies.
  • Manage the transactional Bank account ensuring that there are sufficient funds to make payments to suppliers and payroll. 
  • Responsible for the Chart of Accounts
  • Review monthly accruals to ensure supporting document/working matches with accruals.
  • Review and post journals.
  • Review and sign off Balance Sheet Reconciliations each month.
  • Prepare quarterly commentary and discuss reconciliations with Financial Controller.
  • Prepare end of month reports
  • Review and approve BAS.
  • Review and lodge FBT.
  • Review HeART submission and act as a backup for Senior Financial Accountant for preparation and submission of this monthly department reporting.
  • Lease Accounting experience and thorough knowledge of AASB 16
  • Assist with year-end note preparation for the Annual Financial Statements
  • Assist with internal and external audit queries.
  • Review and update current policies and procedures.
  • Review and provide recommendations for process improvements.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual or ad-hoc reports.
  • Carry out other duties as required by the Financial Controller or Director of Financial Services.

 

About you 
To be successful in this role you will possess:

 

Essential

  • CPA or CA qualified with full current membership
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a similar role or 5+ years of Senior Accountant experience
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Appropriate experience in an accounting position.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective financial and accounting services within a team environment.
  • Highly developed written and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated creative and critical thinking skills with a can-do attitude.
  • Proficiency with Windows based applications, particularly spreadsheets and databases

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an Audit role or business services
  • Advanced excel skills.
  • Extensive accounting experience in the Health Industry desired but not essential


Vaccination against infectious disease is a mandatory requirement of this role.  An offer of employment is conditional on you providing evidence that you are currently vaccinated against COVID-19 with booster & Influenza, prior to commencing employment.
