About the role

The Interpreter plays a vital role within the Allied Health team at Eastern Health, providing essential interpreting services for staff, patients, and their families. This position involves managing interpreter bookings efficiently and professionally, ensuring that Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) patients fully understand their healthcare information. The Interpreter also educates and collaborates with hospital staff to enhance their use of interpreting services and helps coordinate both internal and external interpreter bookings. Maintaining accurate records of service occasions and reporting these to the Director of Language Services is a key responsibility. Additionally, the Interpreter engages in regular reviews of service provision and development through supervision and the Achieve Framework, working closely with the Director of Language Services at Box Hill Hospital.

 

About you 
To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • NAATI Certified Interpreter certification
  • Tertiary qualifications
  • Ability to speak Mandarin and Cantonese
  • Experience working as an interpreter in a healthcare environment
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work
  • Ability to work as a team and with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Current drivers' licence

 

Desirable

  • Computer skills - Microsoft 365
  • Experience using the Healthdirect telehealth/video call platform


Vaccination against infectious disease is a mandatory requirement of this role.  An offer of employment is conditional on you providing evidence that you are currently vaccinated against COVID-19 with booster & Influenza, prior to commencing employment.
