About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Scientist to join our 24/7 Haematology & Transfusion (Blood Bank) Laboratory within a metropolitan hospital pathology service.
This role is ideal for a scientist who is passionate about laboratory medicine and keen to develop their skills, confidence, and career in a supportive, well-governed clinical environment.
About the Role
You will work as part of a collaborative team providing high-quality diagnostic haematology and transfusion services to acute clinical areas. The laboratory operates a rotating roster including after-hours and on-call, with appropriate on-call allowances provided.
Key responsibilities include:
- Routine and specialised haematology testing
- Transfusion science including blood group serology, antibody investigations, and issue of blood products
- Participation in quality assurance, quality improvement, and laboratory accreditation requirements
- Contributing to safe, timely, and patient-centred pathology services
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a recognised qualification in Medical Laboratory Science
- Major in Haematology and/or Transfusion will be highly regarded
- Is eligible for membership with AIMS (or working towards)
- Has attention to detail
- Demonstrates enthusiasm, initiative, and a willingness to learn
- Has a strong commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes
- Enjoys working in a supportive team environment
- Is interested in career progression, advanced practice, or future leadership opportunities
- Experience in Haematology and/or Transfusion is desirable, but support and training will be provided for the right candidate.
