Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.

Our Employee Value Proposition is “Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts”.

This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.

About the role

Eastern Health is seeking an experienced and highly organised administrator or paralegal to join our in‑house legal team as a Medico‑Legal Support Officer. This is a new role and will be central to supporting the management of Eastern Health’s medico‑legal and coronial portfolio.

We are seeking a candidate with strong administrative capability and a proactive approach to managing competing priorities. You will be confident organising and coordinating complex information, supporting staff involved in legal and coronial processes, and maintaining accurate records and timelines. You will work closely with legal counsel while also working independently to manage your administrative tasks. Training in the role will be provided.

While previous medico‑legal experience is welcome, it is not essential — we are seeking someone with excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly. If you take pride in producing high‑quality work, can communicate well with people at all levels, and enjoy being a trusted, reliable point of coordination within a professional team, this is the role for you.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Background in administrative role supporting professional staff.
  • Planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • High degree of proactivity, initiative, attention to detail, responsibility and accountability for the allocated work portfolio.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills across all levels of the organisation.
  • A willingness to learn new processes and take instructions from, and work under, legal counsel.
  • Commitment to process improvement.
  • Ability to manage a range of complex tasks within and across a number of areas at the one time.
  • Proficiency in the use of contemporary digital tools and environments.
  • Ability to format and edit professional documents.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
