Grade 2 Physiotherapist – Accelerated Acute Medical Unit (AAMU)

  • Permanent full-time | 5 weeks’ leave + monthly day off | Values based organisation
  • Box Hill Hospital | Close to cafes and public transport | Diverse caseloads
  • Join a high performing physiotherapy department | Evolving clinical area

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an Acute Grade 2 Physiotherapist to work in an evolving clinical environment with a highly varied caseload. If you enjoy clinical diversity, value continuous learning, and want to play an active role in shaping and enhancing Physiotherapy services, this role is for you.

You will join an innovative acute physiotherapy service working in the Accelerated Acute Medical Unit (AAMU), with opportunities to support the wider Emergency and Complex Acute Medicine (ECAM) team across the Emergency Department (Secondary Contact) and General Medicine wards. As an integral member of the broader Physiotherapy and Allied Health teams, you will deliver high-quality evidence-based care in a supported environment.

You will also lead supervision of Grade 1 staff, Allied Health Assistants and undergraduate students. This role invites opportunities to actively engage in quality improvement initiatives, research, and professional development (including participation in Eastern Health’s ED training pathway), to progress the future of the ECAM team, as well as your personal career aspirations. The role is supported by friendly and experienced Grade 3 Emergency and Complex Acute Medicine physiotherapist and Grade 4 Physiotherapist Clinical lead.

This position offers a unique opportunity to be involved in the development of the AAMU, a growing service within General Medicine. Supported by a collaborative multidisciplinary team, AAMU is a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a high patient turnover, providing exposure to a diverse range of acute medical presentations and opportunities to refine advanced assessment, clinical decision-making and discharge planning skills. You will have the opportunity to contribute to service development and shape emerging models of care.

As ECAM continues to evolve, future opportunities may include participation in a broader Grade 2 rotational model across the Emergency Department, General Medicine (Levels 6 and 9), and AAMU providing a diverse and rewarding acute-care career pathway.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Current registration with AHPRA.
  • Eligibility for practicing membership of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
  • Advanced clinical skills in managing a fast-paced and complex caseload, using a client-centred approach.
  • Relevant clinical experience including acute medical, aged and complex care physiotherapy.
  • High level communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work and show leadership in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in supervision of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability and passion to introduce innovative practice.
