About the role
This Grade 3 Occupational Therapist role is based in the Emergency Department at Box Hill and Maroondah Hospital and forms part of the multidisciplinary GEDI (Geriatrician in Emergency Department Intervention) team. The aim of the GEDI program is to divert hospital admissions through improved access to specialist geriatric care and discharge planning.
You will work alongside the GEDI geriatrician(s), providing hospital and home-based occupational therapy assessment and interventions to support early transition home and prevent avoidable hospital admissions.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Demonstrated clinical experience working with older adults and their families in an acute or sub-acute healthcare setting.
- Sound knowledge of evidence-based delirium prevention, assessment and management strategies.
- Well-developed clinical assessment, triage and prioritisation skills, with the ability to respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, solution-focused approach to patient care and service delivery.
- Confidence in leading discharge planning and supporting safe transitions from hospital to community-based care.
- Strong clinical decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role, and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
