About the role
An opportunity exists on the paediatric ward at Box Hill Hospital for an enthusiastic ward clerk for a permanent part time position. Our busy paediatric unit has 16 beds. We support children from neonatal age to 18 years old. Our presentations range from surgical (general surgery, ENT, plastics and orthopaedics) to medical, including a speciality eating disorders unit. We provide a family-centred, holistic model of care and provide an environment where families are encouraged to participate in patient care.
We are an innovative, collaborative and friendly team
We see the ward clerk position as the glue that holds our paediatric unit together. You will have excellent communication and customer service skills. You’ll be cool under pressure, a multi-tasker, and approachable. You will be confident managing the unexpected; and possess patience and empathy for families who are experiencing difficult and stressful times.
No two days here will be the same. We’re looking for someone who is flexible and adaptable, can think on their feet, and who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Your day will involve greeting patients and families, completing their admission and discharge processes, keeping track of stocks, supplies and ordering, as well as general administrative duties. Coordinating general organisation of the ward and assisting with improvement work and projects – also ensuring toy supplies is very important!
As our ward clerk, you will be the face of the ward. Your warm, friendly greeting will reassure and welcome our families to the unit. You will be part of the team and can join in the camaraderie we have developed– including dressing up and decorating the ward for special occasions and holidays!
