Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) 

 

South Ward, Older Adult Acute Mental Health Unit, Peter James Centre is seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant to join our team.

  • This is a permanent part time position, rotating roster across 7 days 

  • Location: South Ward is located at Peter James Centre, Corner Mahoney’s Road and Burwood Highway in East Burwood.

About the role  

We are looking for enthusiastic CNC to work within our recently refurbished Older Adult Acute Mental Health ward and a newly developed Memory Care Area currently under construction (due to open soon). This unique opportunity will provide you with the capacity to develop advanced skills in Older Adult Acute Mental Health, along with being part of a friendly and supportive team environment.  

 

This Role includes:  

 

  • Works closely with the Nurse Manager and Professional Development Unit to identify staff knowledge and skill gaps and assists in the development of learning plans and professional improvement. 

  • Works as clinical lead, providing support and education to team members. Mentors and oversees novice team members and assists the Nurse Manager to embed a culture of professional development. 

  • Leads implementation of nursing specific best practice standards in area of clinical practice.  

  • Actively participates in development of a local action plan that is reviewed monthly, and updated annually with the NUM, ensuring it is measured against and complies with the specific competencies, Mental health capability framework, NSQHS Standards, NMBA professional standards and codes of conduct, EH Nursing Midwifery Domains of Practice and EH values. 

  • Reviews and reports on all matters of legislative compliance as required under this Act 

  • Undertaking of audits as per organizational requirements, evaluating results and implementing action plans to address gaps. 

  • Supports the senior mental health nursing/health team and wider multidisciplinary team with timely and effective communication to guide and achieve optimal consumer outcomes. 

  • Leads and works collaboratively with Consumer and Carer Consultants / Peer Workers in the development of educational resources for consumers, carers, or Nominated Persons/other interested parties. 

  • Participates in, and contributes to, the reduction and review of all the restrictive interventions utilising least restrictive principles, reporting breeches and participation in monthly MHWB RRI committee. 

  • Assists in and oversees the orientation and support of new staff members, completing mandatory induction paperwork where appropriate and ensuring staff have an awareness and understanding of Eastern Health policies and standards.  

  • Actively participate in local region forums regarding service development and partnerships
