About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Palliative Medicine Specialist / Physician to join the Supportive and Palliative Care Service at Eastern Health (EH). This provides the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary setting across all sites of Eastern Health. The breadth of services includes inpatient palliative care, consultation palliative care and outpatient clinics. You will be joining a dynamic team which includes 5 accredited advanced trainees with 2 based at Wantirna Health (inpatient), 2 based at Box Hill Hospital and Maroondah Health (consult) and 1 based at Eastern Palliative Care (community). The department has an established teaching/education and quality assurance program and offers interdisciplinary research opportunities.
Particular duties of this role include:
- Participation in a rotational roster throughout the EH Supportive and Palliative Care service including periods of rostered time as ward service consultant for the inpatient palliative care unit in Wantirna, consult service at the various Eastern Health sites
- Session(s) and/or providing cover in outpatient clinics
- Undertaking and promoting interdisciplinary research at a local, state, national and international level, both individually and in collaboration with other members of the department and the Eastern Clinical Research Unit and Monash University
- Assisting in the delivery of high-quality palliative medicine educational programs for medical student training and HMOs, and supervision/training of advanced trainees in palliative medicine
About you
- To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Palliative Medicine, and/or Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM)
- Recognised by AHPRA as a specialist in Palliative Care Medicine
- Significant clinical experience in Palliative Care
- Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
