About the role
These accredited positions offer excellent opportunities for Advanced Trainees to experience a range of experiences in Palliative Medicine in community, inpatient/hospital-based consultation and outpatient settings.
Supervision and education by our Palliative Care Consultants and skilled nursing and allied health teams will contribute to a beneficial learning experience for those employed. Skills in clinical medicine and research, as well as mentorship and opportunities in non-clinical, professional development will be promoted.
The Consults Service registrar (full time) has responsibility for the triaging, assessment and consultative management of all appropriate referrals of adult inpatients to the Hospital Based Palliative Care Consultancy Service (HBPCCT). The Trainee is required to work collaboratively with and to provide medical support to the Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultants (CNCs). The Trainee and supervising Palliative Care Consultant are responsible for the overall care provided by the HBPCCT.
The Community Registrar position (part time, 0.5EFT) will be based at Eastern Palliative Care (EPC) and will provide holistic, person-and-relationship centred palliative medicine support to EPC clients as a clinician of the interdisciplinary team and under the supervision of EPC Palliative Care Consultant(s).
The Consults and Community Registrar role may involve providing supervised specialist palliative care reviews in an outpatient palliative care clinic, telehealth consultations and potentially home visits (Community Registrar).
The Trainee is expected to participate in the weekend roster at Wantirna Health (except the Community Registrar position). Palliative care registrars working across different sites and roles are expected to participate in the weekly education and respective unit meetings.
