About the role

 

An opportunity is open for a Clinical Research Fellow with an interest in Colorectal Surgery onsite at Eastern Health and is partly sponsored by Medtronic. The primary role is to provide a link between developing a research concept and conducting the clinical study relevant to clinical practice. The role would be inclusive of:

 

  • Develop new research goals and ideas in conjunction with their supervisor and the conduct of research projects already in progress as well as the supervision of junior medical staff with an interest in research
  • Surgical assisting for 3 to 4 lists per week on a rostered basis which will supplement the income (expected to be in excess of $50,000)
  • One operating list and an outpatient clinic once per month and on call general surgery (consultant) at the Angliss Hospital and one list per month at Blackburn Hospital
  • Training in anorectal physiology and anorectal ultrasound as part of the pelvic floor clinic on a fortnightly basis (3.5 hours) 

  • Sharing of clinical duties with the training Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand Clinical Fellow.
    • 1 in 3 weekend rounds
    • On call for colorectal emergencies 1 in 3 with the clinical fellow 
    • Endoscopy and operating lists at Box Hill and Maroondah Hospital
    • 3 public operating lists per fortnight at split between Box Hill and Maroondah Hospital
  • Conduct and organisation of junior medical staff training in basic surgical skills, laparoscopy and endoscopy

 

About you 

 

To be successful in this role:

 

 Be either suitable for, or have current medical registration in Australia

  • Hold a FRACS or equivalent
  • Have an interest in colorectal surgery training
  • Be keen to undertake a research project with the unit.

Vaccination against infectious disease is a mandatory requirement of this role.  An offer of employment is conditional on you providing evidence that you are currently vaccinated against COVID-19 with booster & Influenza, prior to commencing employment.
