Eastern Health
Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.
Our Employee Value Proposition is “Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts”.
This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.
About the role
Eastern Health provides an exceptional environment for ICU training, tailored to support trainees at every stage of their journey. Whether you're just beginning or well into advanced training, we offer flexible, individualised experiences to meet your specific learning needs and career goals. You will experience a high level of supported autonomy — empowered to make clinical decisions with the backing of an approachable team of intensivists.
Our program provides exceptional supervision and mentorship. Weekly four-hour teaching sessions are well-attended and consistently reviewed, with simulation-based training incorporated monthly. Our Primary School program, a consultant-led study group, supports candidates preparing for the CICM Primary Exam through SAQ practice under exam conditions with individualised feedback.
We have two ICU consultants with advanced ultrasound qualifications, and a formal echocardiography education program — designed to support completion of CICM echo requirements — is currently in development. You’ll also participate in Beyond ICU, a peer-to-peer support program that exposes trainees to the lived experiences of patients recovering from critical illness.
Professional development is actively supported with opportunities to engage in research, audit, and quality improvement projects. Opportunities for anaesthetics, acute and longitudinal medicine, and even rural rotations can be arranged to meet college requirements. Subject to performance, trainees may be offered continued positions for up to two additional years.
We recognise the importance of work–life balance and are committed to supporting trainees both professionally and personally. We make every effort to accommodate individual leave requests and strive to offer flexible rostering wherever possible.
