About the role
This accredited position offers excellent opportunities for Registrars/Advanced Trainees to experience and increase their knowledge and skills in Palliative Medicine through inpatient hospital-based and outpatient settings.
Supervision and education by our Palliative Care Consultants and skilled nursing and allied health teams will contribute to a beneficial learning experience for those employed. Skills in clinical medicine and research, as well as mentorship and opportunities in non-clinical, professional development will be promoted.
The Consults Service Registrar has responsibility for the triaging, assessment and consultative management of all appropriate referrals of adult inpatients to the Hospital Based Palliative Care Consultancy Service (HBPCCT). The registrar is required to work collaboratively with and to provide medical support to the Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultants (CNCs). The registrar and supervising Palliative Care Consultant are responsible for the overall care provided by the HBPCCT.
The Consults Registrar role may involve providing supervised specialist palliative care reviews in an outpatient palliative care clinic, telehealth consultations and potentially opportunity for community/home visits with evolving service model capability.
This position may also have opportunities to undertake supervised research, education and/or quality improvement activities as part of clinical service development in discussion with the respective medical service leads and/or Clinical Director.
The registrar may be required to participate in the weekend covering roster at Wantirna Health. Palliative care registrars working across different sites and roles are expected to participate in the weekly education and respective unit meetings.
Applicants will be required to have completed the RACP Basic Physician Training (BPT) OR registration in GP training program with an appropriate level of clinical experience. Applicants are encouraged to be registered with the Victorian Palliative Medicine Training Program. Part time (minimum of 0.5EFT) or job share applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

- Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience

- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Research experience is highly desirable
- Previous experience and/or strong interest in palliative medicine
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
