About the role

 

 

Exciting Opportunity for Junior Doctors: Surgical Hospital Medical Officer (HMO3+) at Eastern Health.

 

 

Start Date: August 2026

 

 

Eastern Health is offering an exceptional opportunity for junior doctors (HMO3+) to further their careers in surgery, starting in August/September 2026. These positions are ideal for those with a passion for surgery and a desire to work across a diverse range of specialties.

 

 

As an HMO3+ in the Surgical Stream, you will experience a rich variety of rotations that will help you build comprehensive surgical skills, including:

 

 

  • Orthopaedics
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • General Surgery (including rural and outer metropolitan locations)
  • ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat)
  • Urology
  • Intensive Care

 

 

You will rotate across Eastern Health’s renowned campuses, gaining exposure to a broad spectrum of surgical cases and working with experts in each field. Our team encourages growth and hands-on experience while maintaining a balanced workload, with HMOs participating in a night/relieving roster.

About you 

 

 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

 

 

  • Current Registration with AHPRA or Eligibility for Provisional Registration with AHPRA 
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
  • A strong commitment to high quality care
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.

Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
