About the role
Physician Training in Adult Medicine at Eastern Health is in an exciting phase of growth and has a well-supported Education program aimed to help you get through your training, pass your exams and ultimately be a caring and compassionate Physician. There is a number of National examiners that support and mentor our trainees. You will also have a dedicated Educational Supervisor during your training.
This position is clinically responsible to the Registrar and Consultants of the Unit.
The Basic Physician Trainee Year 1 is responsible for coordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of patients admitted to their ward. You will also participate in the Basic Physician Training Program and register and complete the requirements of the Royal Australian College of Physicians. You report to the Director of Physician Education and Manager of Physician Education for your training responsibilities.
We are recruiting doctors who are interested in starting their Basic Physician Training in 2027. This role is available to those doctors who are currently interns or a higher PGY level.
Please note that the Basic Physician Training rotations do not satisfy the requirements for the new National Framework for PGY2 doctors. The rotations satisfy the requirements of the Royal Australian College of Physicians. If you are unsure about your career pathway, please consider doing another general year in 2027 and applying for Physician Training for commencement in 2028.

To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Current registration with AHPRA (with general registration to be granted by Feb 2027
- To complete registration with RACP by February 2027
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
