Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest metropolitan public health services. We provide a comprehensive range of high quality acute, sub-acute, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, community health and statewide services to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age and socio- economic status, population and healthcare needs. ‘Being part of Eastern Health is being part of a welcoming team of healthcare experts’ is achieved through Eastern Health’s strategic goal of HEALTHIER TOGETHER.

Eastern Health paediatrics provides services to children, families and communities at Box Hill Hospital, Angliss Hospital, Maroondah Hospital, Grey Street Community Health, Healesville and Yarra Ranges. We are the Women and Children’s service for our local Health Services Network (LHSN).

We are a unit with a strong culture of kindness, trust and inclusion. We are looking for clinicians with both excellent clinical skills and strong interpersonal skills. We put high priority on teamwork and appointments will be made with the view of growing and developing our services.

About the role

We are seeking a paediatrician to join a collaboration with Eastern Health Community Health, EACH and Access Health and Community to provide a fortnightly full day assessment clinic at Eastern Health’s Community Health building in Grey Street, Ringwood.

Children placed in statutory care are known to have poorer health outcomes than the general population, across all domains of health: physical, developmental and emotional/mental health. As of 30 June 2023, there were 9,132 children in care in Victoria (6.3 per 1,000 children) (Child Protection Australia 2022-23, AIHW). Long wait lists and the complexity in navigating health and social care systems contribute to vulnerable cohorts such as children in care being excluded from receiving the right healthcare at the right time.

The Pathway to Good Health (PTGH) initiative aims to provide health screening, assessment, planning and referral support for children and young people entering or re-entering out-of-home care (including kinship, foster and residential care settings), and is partially funded by the Department of Health.

As part of this collaborative:

EACH and Access Health & Community will employ Health Navigators who are responsible for outreach, intake, information gathering and health screening of eligible clients. If required, they will refer to the Multidisciplinary Clinic for a comprehensive health assessment.

Eastern Health is responsible for delivering the PTGH Multidisciplinary Assessment Clinic, inclusive of a Paediatrician, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Psychologist with Administration support.  The clinic is planned to run as a fortnightly full day assessment clinic from the existing Community Health building in Grey Street, Ringwood.
