About the role

We are looking for a Grade 1 Speech Pathologist to join the Speech Pathology / Allied Health teams at Eastern Health.  This role provides opportunity to develop clinical skills and knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and management of acquired communication and swallowing disorders in the inpatient acute and subacute hospital settings.  This role is full time and rotates every 6 months to support skill development across a range of inpatient settings, including acute medical, surgical, geriatric medicine and rehabilitation wards.  You will also work as part of the larger Eastern Health speech pathology team and be supported with regular supervision, opportunities for professional development and undertake student supervision, guided by our learning and teaching program. We also offer in-house learning pathways for VFSS, tracheostomy and FEES. 

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Approved Degree in Speech Pathology  
  • Eligibility for practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia 
  • Recent relevant experience in assessment, treatment and management of communication and swallowing disorders in an inpatient acute, rehabilitation and/or geriatric evaluation and management setting 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of patient centred care and inter-professional practice 
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team 
  • A strong commitment to high quality care in line with Eastern Health values 
  • Current driver’s licence and access to a vehicle 
  • Competence in the administration, interpretation and reporting of Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS), and experience working with Allied Health Assistants are highly desirable, but not essential to be considered for this role 

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
