About the role 

 

 

An exciting opportunity exists for a Community Health Nurse – Family Health to join the Aboriginal Health Team within Community Health at Eastern Health. 

 

 

This role provides culturally safe, family‑centred nursing care to Aboriginal children, young people, pregnant women and families within the local community. Working both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the successful applicant will deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care, support early intervention and prevention initiatives, and assist families to navigate health and community services. 

 

 

The role requires strong clinical skills, effective communication, cultural capability, and a commitment to partnering with families and community to improve health outcomes. 

 

 

About you

 

 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

 

 

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Post‑graduate qualifications in Midwifery, Child and Family Health, Aboriginal Health, or Community Health (desirable but not essential)
  • Relevant experience in child and family health, community nursing, Aboriginal health, or a related primary health care setting
  • A strong commitment to delivering culturally safe, trauma‑informed and family‑centred care for Aboriginal children and families
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, families, Elders and community stakeholders
  • An understanding of the social, cultural and historical factors impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with children, parents and carers
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary and diverse team, while also demonstrating initiative and autonomy in community‑based practice
  • A commitment to continuous quality improvement, professional development and evidence‑based practice
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination is a mandatory requirement of this role, in line with Eastern Health and ATAGI recommendations.

   

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment. 

 

 

Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
