About the role

Turning Point Statewide Specialist Clinical Services provides multidisciplinary specialist addiction care and support across Victoria. As a consultant addiction specialist (addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine), you will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team, providing leadership and clinical governance across a range of programs. Sessional clinics will include our statewide opioid pharmacotherapy service, and addiction medicine and psychiatry assessments. The role will also support supervision for senior registrars and teaching of junior doctors and medical students. Along with driving quality improvement in this clinical program, the incoming consultant have an opportunity to contribute to the broader roles that Turning Point has in addiction treatment leadership, advocacy and policy across the state.

 

The role is part time (6 sessions) and fixed term, and will be backfilling long service leave.

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

 

Essential 

  • Must be a registered medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia. 
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ Chapter of Addiction Medicine and/or Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists with completion of training in Addiction Psychiatry 
  • Excellent clinical skills and knowledge of contemporary alcohol and drug treatment practices. 
  • Victorian authorisation to prescribe methadone and buprenorphine pharmacotherapies for the treatment of addiction 
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional standards and work practices. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to complete clinical records, and to provide clear information to a wide range of stakeholders and work within a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Demonstrated negotiation and advocacy skills. 
  • Significant conflict resolution experience. 
  • Willingness to engage in a leadership role. 
  • Willingness to attend regular supervision with the Clinical Director or Executive Clinical Director. 
  • Computer literacy 

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
