About the role
Spectrum specialises in personality disorder and complex trauma. Spectrum is a centre of clinical excellence for personality disorder and the statewide specialist personality disorder service for Victoria, funded by the Department of Health and provided by Eastern Health.
Spectrum provides direct clinical care for people with complex and or severe personality disorder, secondary consultations and second opinions for clinicians working with people experiencing complex trauma or personality disorders, and workforce development opportunities. Underpinning these areas are Spectrum’s translational research, innovation and evaluation activities. Spectrum provides leadership and advocacy for appropriate access to evidence-based healthcare and other supports for individuals and their carers living with personality disorder across Australia.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join our Research and Innovation Team at Spectrum. The successful candidate will work as part of this dynamic team of research and clinical staff to assist with a range of activities leading to the timely completion of translational research projects including treatment evaluation, piloting innovative treatments, collaborative epidemiological and intervention projects, and post-graduate student research. The successful candidate will contribute to research activities undertaken by the team, as well as complete relevant administrative tasks. The successful candidate will work directly with senior researchers/clinicians who will provide guidance, mentoring and training to assist them in performing their role.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- A strong interest in personality disorder and/or trauma research and/or previous experience working with people who have complex needs (e.g., mental health, AOD, disability)
- Quantitative and/or qualitative research skills, such as in the following areas:
- Contributing to literature reviews, including developing research questions, accurate searching, analysis, and synthesis of the literature
- Preparation of applications for ethics and governance approval
- Research project planning, data collection, data entry, data analysis, and report-writing
- High level of attention to detail, including accurate scheduling, data collection and record keeping
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team, and to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project outcomes
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, and verbal and written communication skills
- Sound time management skills, meeting competing deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes
- Demonstrated capacity to adhere to ethical guidelines and project protocols
- Analytic skills and an ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement
- Computing skills, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs, statistical analysis software packages (e.g. SPSS, Stata), and the Endnote referencing system
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
