About Maroondah Emergency 

 

 

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest metropolitan public health services. We provide a comprehensive range of high-quality acute, sub-acute, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, community health and state-wide services to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age and socio-economic status, population and healthcare needs.  

 

 

The Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital cares for approximately 50,000 patients per year in this post COVID environment, averaging 135 presentations per day. Presentations include critically unwell patients requiring immediate stabilisation as well as a significant proportion of paediatric presentations. Departmental resources include 35 treatment spaces, including; 3 resuscitation bays, dedicated paediatric and fast track treatment areas, and a combined adult and paediatric Short Stay Unit.

About the role 

 

 

The Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital has an opportunity available for a senior Critical care Emergency Nurse with strong leadership skills to join their highly dedicated multidisciplinary team in an Associate Nurse Unit Manager position.  

The ANUM team works alongside the NUM in providing leadership and management within the nursing team and the broader Emergency Department. The role involves working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide high quality care to the patients and families of Melbourne East.  

  

 

To be successful in this role you must be committed toworking in partnership with a strongly committed and diverse team, whilst maintaining a clear focus on the high quality patient and family experience we strive for.  

 

  

Key Responsibilities:  

 

 

  • Lead, mentor, and support the nursing team to deliver high standards of patient care in a challenging and fast-paced environment.  
  • Ensure optimal patient flow, staffing levels, and resource management to meet the demands of the department.  
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote safe, evidence-based practice and patient-centred care.  
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.  
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and patient outcomes.  
  • Oversee the professional development of staff, including mentoring and guiding junior nurses.  
  • Assist with the management of patient complaints, incidents, and escalated issues as required.  

  

 

About you

 

 

  • Current AHPRA registration  
  • Previous ANUM / Shift Coordinator experience  
  • Minimum 3 years post graduate experience in an Emergency/Critical Care Setting.  
  • Post graduate qualifications in Emergency/Critical Care Nursing  
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing others  
  • Advanced clinical skills in Adult Emergency/Critical Care Nursing  
  • Experience in Paediatric Emergency and/or Paediatric Nursing  
  • Current Working with Children Check  
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and networking skills  
  • Demonstrated abilities in operational leadership and/or management  
  • Well-developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills  
  • Commitment to exceptional patient and family experience service delivery  
  • Proficient computer literacy  

  

 

The following would be highly regarded;  

 

 

  • Advanced Clinical Skills in Paediatric Nursing  
  • Management and Leadership qualifications or working towards same  
  • Experience in Quality Improvement/Service Improvement methodology  

 

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
