Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.

Our Employee Value Proposition is “Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts”.

This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.

About the Department

The Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital provides care to approximately 50,000 patients each year, with presentations ranging from critically unwell patients requiring immediate assessment and stabilisation through to a significant number of paediatric patients.

The department comprises 35 treatment spaces, including three resuscitation bays, dedicated paediatric and fast-track areas, and a combined paediatric and adult Short Stay Unit.

We are also excited that the Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department has commenced planning for a dedicated paediatric emergency zone and paediatric short stay unit.

About the Role

The Emergency Department Clerical Team Leader has oversight of the Emergency Department (ED) clerical team and reports directly to the Nurse Manager.

The role provides hands-on leadership and oversight of the day-to-day delivery of all clerical functions within the ED. This includes providing high-quality face-to-face customer service, ensuring accurate and timely data entry, preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders, and representing the clerical team at relevant departmental working groups.

The role also provides an opportunity to identify, develop and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance clerical processes, service delivery and overall departmental performance.

This position will incorporate a combination of rostered clerical floor shifts and supernumerary leadership shifts to support the needs of your team and the department.

By joining the Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department team, you will become part of a highly dedicated, supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team committed to putting Patients First. This commitment extends beyond providing high-quality patient care to working in partnership with patients and their families throughout their care journey.

At Maroondah Emergency, we pride ourselves on our strong culture of teamwork and collaboration. By working together, we strive for excellence in patient care and service delivery. Our dedicated support network across the department helps foster a positive and inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged and supported to be and do their best.

To be successful in this role you should possess:

  • A strong commitment to high quality patient care and experience
  • Ability to provide leadership that empowers those in your team
  • Technical expertise in patient record management systems (preferably IPM)
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organisational and time management skills in a fast-paced acute healthcare setting

Experience or knowledge of the following will also be highly regarded:

  • EMR (Cerner/Epic)
  • VEMD/VAED Reporting

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.

Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
