About the role

 

 

The McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurse role is pivotal, to ensuring patients diagnosed with Breast Cancer have specialised evidence-based nursing care, information and support throughout the continuum of care. 

 

 

Are you a passionate and collaborative cancer nurse with strong knowledge of oncology care and proven experience in delivering clinical care and leadership within oncology settings?

The McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurse will have expert knowledge regarding the spectrum of cancer care, inclusive of health assessment, treatment pathways, referrals and on-going facilitation of clinical and supportive cancer care. 

 

 

About you

 

 

To be successful in this role you will possess: 

 

 

  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, initiate and manage complex cases at an advanced level 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the physical and psychological needs of patients with Breast cancer, including metastatic disease 
  • Understanding of common treatment regimens for Breast cancer 
  • Understanding of survivorship and later effects; needs of individuals who are undergoing/have had Breast Cancer treatment, and the challenges that these individuals and their families can experience  
  • Proven ability to implement change and develop direction in clinical practice, using evidence-based research and best practice principles 
  • Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills and the ability to provide information and education effectively to patients, families, and carers 
  • Demonstrated effective organisational and time management skills and the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines 
  • Demonstrated curiosity and ability to optimise resources and improve sustainability 
  • Identify and develop resources to assist in the cultural support of patients 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team 
  • Demonstrated excellent collaborative, leadership and teaching skills 
  • Experience in the development, implementation and review of policy, procedure, and guidelines 
  • Experience in strategic and clinical service planning. 
  •  The ability to work a 5-day roster across all shifts Monday-Friday 

 

 

Key Selection Criteria

 

 

  • Current Registered Nurse registration with AHPRA
  • Minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience as a registered nurse with at least  
  • 3 years recent full time equivalent experience in Oncology, Palliative Care or Cancer Stream specific nursing 
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
  • A strong commitment to high quality care
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

 

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
