About the role
Turning Point is a national treatment, research and education centre that provides leadership in the alcohol and drug, gambling and mental health sectors.
The Research Assistant role will be based at the National Addiction and Mental Health Surveillance Unit (NAMHSU). The NAMHSU team aims to reduce the impact of addiction, self-harm and mental ill health through the provision of surveillance data that is used to inform policy and interventions. The Research Assistant role will primarily involve data entry and coding on a day-to-day basis, and other research related tasks as needed.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
Essential
- Capacity to work as a member of a research team.
- Computing skills, including word processing and database software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, SQL).
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Ability to undertake data entry and management.
- Ensure that data is treated respectfully and confidentiality is observed at all times.
Desirable
- Previous research, practice or policy experience in the area of alcohol and drug (AOD) use, mental health or related area.
- Tertiary qualification in health, social or behavioral sciences.
- Ability to undertake data analysis using appropriate software.
- Ability to undertake literature searches.
- Experience with other software packages such as STATA, MapInfo, R studio or Python.
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
