About the role

The Mental Health Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team is looking for the right person to join in its continuing effort to improve mental health and wellbeing services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people requiring assistance for mental health and wellbeing problems.

This role will support Eastern Health Mental Health and Wellbeing Services to achieve the aim of strengthening clinical care and pathways to facilitate improved, supported, and culturally informed access to recovery-oriented adult mental health and wellbeing services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the Eastern Metropolitan Region.

A key focus of the work will be in supporting the principles and the implementation of the Victorian Government Balit Murrup Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Framework 2017–2027.

You will play an integral role in supporting the connection and development of collaborative working relationships between Aboriginal Controlled Organisations and Health Organisations/Aboriginal focused Service providers and mental health and wellbeing services.

The successful applicant will have experience in clinical service delivery in mental health settings and in the provision of recovery focused care.

 

About you 

 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

 

  • Qualification and registration within the relevant professional discipline under the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a range of services at a high standard, including specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions, to people with a serious mental illness.
  • Demonstrated capacity, skills and expertise in working with clients with multiple and complex needs including alcohol and other drug and physical co morbidity.
  • Interest or experience in working with Aboriginal people experiencing mental health problems.
  • Desire to support Aboriginal people to engage with Aboriginal Controlled Organizations and mainstream health services.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
  • A strong commitment to high quality care
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

 

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.

Those that are offerred and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offerred and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
