Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services.  We provide a comprehensive range of high quality acute, sub-acute, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care and community health services to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age, socio-economic status, population and healthcare needs.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to an enhanced mental health service for infant, children and youth with a serious mental health illness (aged 0 – 25 years) and their families.

About the role

The ICYMHS Access Team provides the entry point into the service for children, young people, and their families who are generally contacting mental health services for the first time. The Access Team also provides brief intervention via the Short Term Assessment & Treatment Clinic.

We have a position for a Grade 3/RPN 4 Mental Health Clinician to join our skilled and enthusiastic team, located in vibrant Ringwood in a new, purpose-built mental health hub near Eastland and Ringwood Station.  This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a large team with great role variation and designated non-direct clinical days (NB: for nurses, social workers and occupational therapists only as part of award).

The Senior Clinician role is varied and includes:

- Managing and prioritising referrals for the ICYMHS community and specialist teams

- Telephone and face-to-face assessments of young people presenting with acute and/or complex mental health concerns, including coverage of Box Hill Hospital Emergency Department during business hours

- Short term intervention for young people and their families including Family Therapy with the reflective team

- Primary and secondary consultations to other service providers

- Providing supervision and support for junior clinicians in the Access Team

Benefits of the role include belonging to an experienced and supportive multi-disciplinary team, regular clinical supervision and regular professional development.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Current Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Registered Psychiatric Nurse registration with AHPRA; for Social Work, eligibility for membership of AASW
  • At least five years clinical experience working with children or young people
  • A strong commitment to high quality care
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
