About the role

The Ward Clerk plays a key role in supporting the Intensive Care Unit (MH ICU). You will be the first point of contact for consumers, families, visitors and staff, ensuring a safe, welcoming and professional environment. 

This role provides essential clerical, administrative and reception support to the nursing and multidisciplinary team, contributing to efficient unit operations and excellent patient experiences. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide reception and customer service to consumers, families, visitors and staff 
  • Maintain accurate patient information using Eastern Health Patient Management Systems 
  • Manage telephone enquiries and coordinate communication within the unit 
  • Support nursing and clinical staff with administrative tasks 
  • Assist with admissions, discharges and transfers 
  • Uphold confidentiality, privacy and Eastern Health policies 
  • Participate in mandatory training, performance development and continuous improvement activities 

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you will possess:

 

Essential

  • High level written and verbal communication skills 
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Patient Management Systems
  • Advanced telephone and clerical skills
  • Strong organisation and time‑management abilities 
  • Ability to provide professional, friendly customer service 
  • Interest in working in a patient‑centred Intensive Care environment 
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team 

 

Desirable

  • Experience in a healthcare and the acute setting 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology 
  • Previous experience in a similar administrative role

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
