About the role

We are seeking an organised, compassionate, and motivated Ward Clerk to join our dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. This is a vital front-line administrative position where you will support the smooth day-to-day running of the ICU, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment for patients, their families, and clinical staff.

This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to critical care services and be part of a team that delivers high-quality care during some of the most difficult moments in patients’ lives.

About you

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, has great communication skills and can work well within a team environment. They should be able to provide empathetic support to both staff and families in a complex and emotionally sensitive environment.

To be successful in this role you will possess:

Essential:

  • Customer Service Skills: A friendly, professional demeanour and a commitment to delivering excellent service to patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Communication Skills: Clear and confident verbal and written communication with individuals at all levels.

  • Organisational Abilities and Multitasking: Capable of managing competing priorities and handling a variety of tasks efficiently in a clinically demanding environment.

  • Attention to Detail: A thorough and accurate approach to administrative work, ensuring high standards are consistently upheld.

  • Teamwork and Collaboration: A supportive team player, able to work effectively with healthcare professionals and administrative colleagues.

  • Computer Proficiency: Confident using basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Able to resolve routine administrative challenges and respond appropriately to patient or staff queries.

  • Adaptability: Open to change, with the ability to adjust to new procedures or shifting workflows.

  • Empathy and Compassion: A caring approach, recognising the needs and emotions of patients and their loved ones.

Desirable:

  • Advanced Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft 365, Teams, and electronic health record (EHR) or hospital information systems (HIS).

  • Medical Terminology Knowledge: Understanding of medical terms and procedures to assist in accurate record-keeping and communication.

  • Hospital Clerical Experience: Previous experience in a similar hospital or healthcare administrative role.
